MALEKU INDIGENOUS CULTURAL TOUR

The tour takes you to one of the most important agriculture zones in Costa Rica: the Northern Plains. After an hour drive you arrive at an Indigenous reservation set by the government, with three Maleku communities known as El Sol, Margarita and Tonjibe. We will visit Tonjibe community where we will meet a local family, and learn about their daily struggle to survive and keep their traditions and culture intact. Their ancient life style comes in conflict with the new environmental government laws such as their homes materials, their diet and medicines. They work hard to preserve their language, dances, diet, dressing, and the use of natural medicines. They open their homes to tourists so they can learn about their lifestyle and buy handcrafts. You get to watch a traditional tribal ritual and a typical Maleku lunch.
